Howdy cowboys and cowgirls! Everyday life can get very repetitive and mundane.

This makes it extremely important for us to set aside time and money for fun adventures that we don’t get to do often. Just like the cowboys and cowgirls of the past were known for their rugged outdoor lifestyle, it is very important for us to also go outside, feel the sun on our skin and be active to improve our mental health and well being. Kenya offers a wealth of outdoor activities that will definitely satisfy your thirst for adventure and excitement.

Grab your hat, boots and saddle up for a wild ride through these epic Kenyan landscapes :

KAWAMAKI FARM - LIMURU, TIGONI

Picture this, rolling hills of tea farms, horseback riding and a picnic in a beautiful garden spread out before you on a warm sunny day. Can’t think of nothin’ better now, can you? It’s  time to hit the trail and explore the stunning countryside, woodland, lakes and waterfalls of Kawamwaki Farm. It’ll cost you 1,800 Ksh per person per hour, however, for those who are feeling feisty and eager to hit the trail, I would suggest you pay for 2 hours so that you can ride  to the hills above the farm.

There you will witness the most magnificent views over Tigoni highlands and beyond. Even if you’ve never ridden before, mosey on over & have no worries! Kawamwaki Stables offers both beginner rider lessons and more advanced options.
No day trip is complete without a picnic! The field hands will help you find the perfect spot to soak up the day.

KENYA REGIMENT RIFLE CLUB (KRRC) - LANGATA and TRIPLE TAP RANGE

Yeehaw! If you’re looking to hone your sharpshooting skills, KRRC in Langata is the place to be. This is the place where beginners and non-gun owners can get into the action and learn the basics of handling firearms like a true cowboy or cowgirl. Just be sure to bring your national ID, cough up 2000 Ksh at the entrance plus 2500 Ksh for 50 rounds of ammo.

For those who know their way around a six shooter, Triple Tap Range is the spot for you. Sign up to become a member and you’ll be shooting like a pro in no time. Membership unlocks the door to official sanctioned matches, consultation on nearly everything gun related , access to all their clubs all over the country, and a chance to connect with other shooters. Aim for the bullseye, the shooting range is callin’ your name!

DEEP SEA FISHING IN WATAMU

It’s time to cast your line and reel in the big one! Deep sea fishing off the coast of Watamu is an adventure you won’t want to miss. The thrill of hooking a marlin or sailfish will get your blood pumping and your hat flying off your head. Back in the day, cowboys would fish and hunt near rivers and lakes to provide food for themselves and their cattle.

Similarly, you can impress your loved ones with the bounty you reel in from the deep sea. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of catching your own dinner while having a tale to share with your loved ones. In our last travel roundup, we suggested a beautiful hotel in Watamu for you to lay your hat. So hitch up your wagon and mosey down to Watamu and get ready for a day on the water you won’t forget
